Ruth Roman is the youngest child born to Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) and Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. The young woman was just a teenager when her father who was the carnival barker, passed away. Her mother was forced to perform tasks such as waitressing and cleaning. Ruth was raised in a poor area of Boston Massachusetts in which she went to the school. But she only stayed in the school for two years, before leaving to pursue her acting career. Her path wasn't without its challenges. When she was in New York, her first task was to pose stills for crime magazines. acting work she longed for was not available. Her next job was as the "hat check" girl for a nightclub but she quit and returned to Boston. As an usherette, she worked in the mornings and was a part of the New England Repertory Company by night, which was her first permanent acting gig. She been accepted into Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she specialized in drama.
